The Poe Health Center will be presenting “Drugs Uncovered: What Parents Need to Know!” on May 20 at 6:20 pm to the interested parents and guardians from West Lake Middle School. The presentation will be discussing current drug trends, signs of abuse, and ways that parents can talk to kids about the dangers of substance abuse. It will also allow you a change to see if you can spot hidden drug paraphernalia in a typical teenagers bedroom. Parents will be given drug identification booklets and other parent resources at the presentation. This presentation is for adults only. Students and children are not allowed in this presentation. If you have any questions please contact Bryth Franke at bfranke@wcpss.net . Remember this presentation is only for adults, children are not allowed. If you are interested in attending the presentation please register with Bryth Franke at bfranke@wcpss.net or sign up in the main office at West Lake Middle School. There is an informational flyer in the front office at West Lake Middle.

We are in dire need of proctors for EOG testing. As you are communicating with parents, please encourage them to volunteer to help. They should contact Consuelo Cabrera to sign up at ccabrera@wcpss.net or 662-2920. The dates for Track 1 are May 13 - 15 and Tracks 2,3 & 4 are June 10 -12.

1. Media Services from WCPSS Central Office has announced a circulation software change (that will be web based) for all Media Centers. In order for the circulation system to be up and running by July 1, 2008, the change over for year-round schools will happen during the month of June. As a result of this change, we must complete numerous "to-do's" prior to June 2nd!!
Therefore, we will need to collect all books from students earlier this year!
MAY 1 - ALL Track 1 and 2 BOOKS DUE -- All circulation stops for Tracks 1 and 2
May 21 - ALL Track 3 and 4 BOOKS DUE -- All circulation stops for Tracks 3 and 4
Our deadlines are also scheduled because of end of year testing dates -- when the Media Center will be closed due to VOCATS, EOGs and EOCs!
2. In celebration of National Library Week, we will hold "Amnesty" weeks from April 14 - May 2! During this special event, students will be able to clear up to $5.00 worth of fines. In order to clear fines, students need to ask a Media Center Staff member to "forgive" their fines! This promotion should encourage students to return books and clear fines at the same time!!
